Corridor was shut in March last year amid Covid-19 conditions

New Delhi, Nov. 17 (Delhi Crown): India resumed operations of the Shri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor from Wednesday (Nov. 17) keeping in mind the improving Covid-19 situation.

The corridor had been closed on March 16, 2020 during the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

After undertaking a review of the overall health and security situation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah ordered the resumption of the operation of the corridor.

Sikhs and Hindus from India and Pakistan use the corridor to reach the Shri Kartarpur Sahib Gurudwara located in Shakargarh in Pakistan’s Narowal District, which is said to be the site where Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, settled down with his family after completing his missionary work of over two decades.

India had signed an agreement with Pakistan on October 24, 2019 to operationalise the Shri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor at the Zero Point, International Boundary in the area known as Dera Baba Nanak.

Pilgrims will visit the gurudwara in Pakistan to commemorate the 553rd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.

The governments of India and Pakistan have said that Covid-related protocols will be in force for all pilgrims travelling along the corridor.
