Urges Govt. to allow foreign companies to test market with their products

New Delhi, Nov. 12 (Delhi Crown): Keen to tap the Indian market for electric vehicles (EVs), Czech automobile manufacturer “Skoda” has announced its plans to bring in its first such SUV “Enyaq” as a completely built-up unit (CBU) before making a long-term commitment towards indigenous manufacturing.

Skoda’s EV plans comes at a time when Indian car makers like Tata Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra, and Korea’s Hyundai (Kia) are shifting their focus to green vehicles.

Skoda Auto (India) CEO Thomas Schaefer was quoted as saying that he expected Skoda’s automobile section to be 30 percent green by 2030.

He urged the Indian government to allow foreign companies to test the market with their products, adding that for that to happen India would have to consider reducing import duties on electric vehicles at least till indigenous manufacturing operations are stabilised.

Skoda has been given the charge of leading the 1-billion USD of India investments by European auto major Volkswagen between 2019 and 2021.
