Delhi reports 20,181 new COVID cases, 7 deaths

Positivity Rate further shoots up to 19.6%.

New Delhi, Jan. 8 (Delhi Crown): The national capital reported 20,181 fresh COVID cases and seven deaths on Saturday, even as the Positivity Rate further rose to 19.6%.

The new cases registered during the day were over 16 percent as compared to Friday.

As on date the number of Active cases stood at 48,178, and the Death Toll stood at 25,143.

On Friday Delhi had reported 17,335 new cases and nine deaths on Friday as the Positivity Rate stood at 17.73%.

The Covid cases are witnessing a consistent rise in Delhi. Hardly ten days ago, the number of new cases per day had gone down to below-100 mark. Considering the sudden surge, weekend curfew has been imposed, with night curfew already in place. Today was the first day of weekend curfew. Shops remained shut, though those engaged in essential services remained open

The weekend curfew began at 10:00 p.m. on Friday and will continue till 5:00 a.m. on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Government has given relaxation in the weekend curfew on Sunday in the wake of the Guru Govind Singh’s birth anniversary to enable the Sikh community offer prayers at Gurudwaras, through following the strict Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB).
