Delhi’s Dengue death toll rises to nine, 2,700 cases overall in 2021

Second highest deaths in national capital so far after 2017
New Delhi, Nov. 8 (Delhi Crown): The death toll from Dengue-related cases in Delhi in 2021 climbed to 9 on Monday, according to a civic body report on vector-borne diseases.
This is the second highest number of fatalities due to dengue in Delhi. The highest recorded number of deaths from the disease was 10 in 2017.
This year Delhi has recorded over 2,700 cases of Dengue, out of which 1,171 have been reported in the first week of November alone.
Last month 1,196 cases were reported.
According to the US-based Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dengue viruses are spread to people through the bite of an infected Aedes species (Aedes Aegypti or Aedes Albopictus) mosquito.
Almost half of the world’s population, that is about four billion people, lives in areas with a risk of dengue. Dengue is often a leading cause of illness in these areas.
