Woman, mother arrested for abducting businessman’s son in East Delhi

Accused used to work as flower decorator at a Banquet Hall

New Delhi, Dec. 26 (Delhi Crown): A 32-year-old woman and her mother have been arrested by the Delhi Police after they were accused of abducting a businessman’s son in East Delhi and demanding Rs one crore as ransom.

The woman, identified as Richa Sabarwal (32), worked as a flower decorator at the businessman’s banquet in East Delhi. According to the police, Richa was the mastermind of the kidnapping, and she had planned the crime along with her boyfriend.

Her mother was identified as Anita (56).

During police interrogation, Richa claimed that she had incurred a huge debt after Covid-19 and was not getting any hike or promotion at her job. Police have recovered Rs 36 lakh of the ransom amount.

Besides the mother-daughter duo, their two male accomplices – Kamal Bansal (36) and Gurmeet Singh (36) have also been arrested for being involved in the crime.

Describing the abduction scene, DCP (East) Priyanka Kashyap said that the abduction happened on December 17, and an FIR in this regard was filed a day later.

The businessman received a call around 3.45 p.m. and was told that his son had been kidnapped from the flower market at Ghazipur. The victim (businessman’s son) said he and his father’s employee Richa Sabarwal had gone to the market to buy flowers.

They were getting into the car after making the purchase when a man wearing a black jacket with a hood, a cap and a mask held a gun at them and asked the driver to go towards Ashok Vihar. On the way, the kidnapper made a WhatsApp call from the victim’s phone to his father. He threatened to kill the victim if police were approached.

The businessman managed to arrange Rs 50 lakh and paid it at Ashok Vihar. The kidnapper released the boy, the driver and Sabarwal, and asked the businessman to drive the car. He got off at Paschim Vihar and asked the businessman to pay the rest at the earliest. From CCTV footage, the cops spotted a suspicious scooty following the car on the entire route.

The Scooty rider was identified as Kamal Bansal, and his arrest led to the kidnapper Gurmeet Singh, both friends and residents of Omkar Nagar. Both claimed that Singh’s girlfriend Richa was the mastermind.
