Admitted in DDU Hospital with mobile phone still inside his body

New Delhi, Jan. 8 (Delhi Crown): An inmate at Delhi’s high-security prison “Tihar Jail” swallowed a mobile phone to escape being caught by the jail staff for illegally keeping a mobile phone.

The incident took place on Wednesday inside Jail No. 1.

The jail inmate has since been admitted at Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital. He is said to be out of danger, though the mobile phone is still said to be inside his body.

Director General (Prison) Sandeep Goel reportedly said – “One inmate of Jail no.1, Tihar, swallowed a mobile phone when our staff approached him for search on suspicion.”

The Tihar Jail has been quite infamous for instances wherein the inmates have been found in possession of smartphones and making threat calls to the outside world in order to run their illegal businesses.

Recently a video went viral showing some noted Delhi gangsters enjoying liquor and cigarettes inside the Tihar Jail. The video was shot by one of them on a smartphone.

On several occasions the courts have expressed dismay at such incidents, pulling up the security personnel for security lapses.

According to the insiders, everything inside the Tihar Jail comes at a price, may it be a mobile phone, cigarettes, TV set, food of one’s choice from the outside world, and even drugs.

According to Tihar DG Goel, the jail will soon have two X-ray based human body scanners that can prevent infiltration of illegal articles and gadgets inside the prison premises.
