New Delhi, Jan. 7 (Delhi Crown): TheDelhi High Court on Friday granted bail to senior freelance journalist Rajeev Sharma, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on July 1 last year for allegedly supplying confidential information to China “compromising India’s national security”.
Sharma was earlier arrested by the Delhi Police’s Special Cell on September 14, 2020 and was charged with passing on information about the Indian Army’s deployment and the country’s border strategy to Chinese intelligence.
Subsequent to his September arrest he was given bail by the Delhi High Court in December 2020 on the grounds that the charge-sheet was not filed within 60 days of his arrest.
Thereafter in July last year he was again arrested, this time by the ED and initiated an investigation on the basis of an FIR filed against him under IPC & Official Secrets Act. It was alleged that he supplied confidential information to Chinese officials in exchange for remuneration.
