SC asks petitioner to move HC for ban on “Why I killed Gandhi”

New Delhi, Feb. 1 (Delhi Crown): A petitioner approaching the Supreme Court to ban exhibition or publication of the film “Why I killed Gandhi”, or any of its contents in any manner, was told on Monday to move his grievance to the High Court.

Refusing to entertain Sikandar Behl’s plea filed through his advocate Anuj Bhandari, Justices Indira Banerjee and J.K. Maheshwari said that while they acknowledged the concerns of the former, “there did not appear to be any violation of a citizen’s fundamental rights and such the matter should be addressed to the high court”.

Petitioner Behl maintained that makers of the film had defamed the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi through the film and demanded that its circulation be stopped or if not stopped, it should be regulated.

The film has been made and produced by Kalyani Singh under the banner of Rights Media International and highlights events leading up to the assassination of Gandhi by Hindu Mahasabha activist Nathuram Godse on January 30, 1948.

Its trailer was released for public viewing on January 22.
