S.I.T. set up to probe Y. Puran Kumar’s suicide case a “hogwash”

“Kumar’s IAS widow Amneet won’t get justice if this SIT probes the case”

New Delhi: Perhaps, the Andhra Pradesh-born Haryana cadre (2001 batch) IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar took his life after losing the battle to the “system” in the state, thus reflecting a sad/poor state of affairs under the current regime in the state known for “atrocities” on/against the Dalits/Minorities.

Four days after Kumar’s suicide, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed on Friday to probe the case. The SIT consists of five officers, namely Inspector General of Police Pushpendra (IPS), Senior Superintendent of Police Ms. Kanwardeep (IPS), Superintendent of Police Ms. Priyanka (IPS), DSP Charanjit Virk, SDPO Ms. Gurjit Kaur, and SHO (Sector-11) Jaiveer Singh.

But, sadly, Kumar’s IAS widow Amneet P. Kumar sadly would have minimal hopes of getting justice for her dead husband, if the current SIR probes this case, said a senior IPS officer on the condition of anonymity.

“Out of these five SIT members, three already have a dubious record,” said the senior IPS officer of AGMUT cadre having quite an understanding of the Chandigarh Police.

If reliable sources are to be believed, the SIT formed to probe Kumar’s suicide case is a “hogwash”, particularly because things moved at an “undesirably fast pace” in prosecuting Kumar’s gunman Sushil Kumar whose statement was recorded under Section 164, CrPC within hours of his arrest, an “aberration” for those who have an understanding of legal procedures.

According to the reliable sources, within 9 days of his most-recent transfer, Kumar was “conspicuously framed” in a liquor-vendors case. On September 29, the Haryana government had abruptly transferred Kumar from his post as IG, Rohtak Range to IG, Police Training College (PTC), Sunaria. Within the Haryana Police department, (t)his transfer was seen as a form of “punishment”.

According to them, I.P.S. Y. Puran Kumar was an upright officer of utmost integrity, and the “liquor case” in Rohtak, in which Kumar’s gunman was found “demanding HAFTA from liquor vendors”, was a “managed/planted act” to defame the late IPS officer. And Kumar, who had been continuously complaining about Scheduled Caste-related bias/discrimination against him, could not take this anymore, and decided to end his life.

“It is shocking to see that the gunman was nabbed and withing a few hours his statement was recorded under Section 164, CrPC. How could it just happen…? The gunman has been underground ever since Kumar’s suicide. We haven’t heard about him yet. It’s too strange indeed. There are neither any media footage about him being produced before a court of law, nor any statement from his family members,” a senior IPS officer of AGMUT cadre told www.thedelhicrown.com .

“Taking the things as they are moving, it seems Kumar’s widow Amneet P. Kumar (IAS), who wrote a 4-page complaint to the ‘system’, won’t be able to get justice if the current 5-member SIT remains. The S.I.T. is simply a hogwash,” said the senior IPS officer.

According to other reliable sources, three out of the five SIT members have a “dubious” track record. “Their roles in policing in the recent past are on record,” said an IPS officer while speaking to www.thedelhicrown.com .
