Procurements through GeM surpass Rs 1 lakh crore in FY 2021-22

New Delhi, March 24 (Delhi Crown): The total procurement of goods through the Central Government’s portal “Government e Marketplace (GeM)” has surpassed Rs 100,000 crore during the financial year 2021-22.

This is said to be a significant increase from previous years.

Out of the total procurements, over 57% has been done from MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises).

Appreciating the big achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday tweeted – “Happy to know that GeM has achieved order value of Rs 1 Lakh Crore in a single year! This is a significant increase from previous years. The GeM platform is especially empowering MSMEs, with 57% of order value coming from MSME sector.”

GeM is an online platform for public procurement in India. The initiative was launched on August 9, 2016 by the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, with the objective of creating an open and transparent procurement platform for government buyers.
