Gurugram, Feb. 14 (Delhi Crown): The new Gurugram Commissioner of Police (CP) Kala Ramachandran’s husband Navdeep Singh Virk (IPS) too had served as the “Police Kapan” in this Millennium City a few years back.

Virk, now posted in Chandigarh in the Transport Department, had served in Gurugram as CP during 2015-16. And, his stint was quite eventful indeed !

First, Virk had hit the headlines for having a public spat with another IPS officer Bharti Arora, after which the latter had to be transferred, and then he had faced flak over immense water logging leading to massive traffic jams in the city following which he was shifted out of the city.

Bharti Arora (IPS) had publicly accused Virk of “interference” in the investigation of an alleged rape case. At a press conference in September 2015, Bharti Arora had accused Virk of “misconduct”.

Prior to this, she had also written a letter to the then director general of police, accusing Virk of allegedly “coercing her” to implicate the in-laws of the rape victim into the case.

Following the feud between the duo, chief minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar, in October 2015 directed the Director General (Crime) K.P. Singh to hand over a report on the incident and all the four cases filed against Ajay Bhardwaj, the accused and the rape survivor within a week.

During the monsoons of 2016, Gurugram had faced immense water logging leading to massive traffic jams. Holding him responsible for the traffic jams lasting several hours, the Haryana government had then shunted him to Rohtak police division.

That was Virk’s second stint in Gurugram Police. Earlier, he had served the city police in 1998-99 as a young IPS officer in the capacity of DSP, as Gurugram didn’t have Commissionerate then.
