New Excise Policy will save Rs 3,500 cr pocketed by liquor mafia earlier: Sisodia
Alleges BJP always had a “link” with liquor mafia
New Delhi, Jan. 3 (Delhi Crown): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi came down heavily on the Delhi unit of the BJP for organising a “Chakka Jaam” against its new Excise Policy, saying the policy “saved Rs 3,500 crore” which was pocketed by the liquor mafia every year earlier.
In its new Excise Policy, the Delhi government privatised the liquor business in Delhi, allowing private players to open on an average three liquor vends in every municipal ward.
Reacting to state-wide agitation called by the Delhi BJP, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia alleged that the BJP always had a link with the liquor mafia in the state.
“BJP always had a link with alcohol mafia. Illegal alcohol was sold at many places by BJP. With CM Kejriwal’s schemes stopped Rs 3500 crores of money from being stolen, so BJP is in pain,” said Sisodia.
The Delhi unit of the BJP has called a “complete shutdown” (chakka jam) across the national capital as a mark of protest against the Delhi Government’s new Excise Policy, giving away the liquor business to private players.
Massive protests have been organised at 15 locations across the city on Monday, the first working day in the new year.
In a tweet, the Delhi unit of the AAP said that earlier there was a loss of Rs 3,500-4,000 crore every year, but now the new Excise Policy has put a check on this.
