Narnaul Jail Suptd. Kuldeep Hooda commits suicide in a village in Gurugram
His bail was rejected by High Court in a bribery case
Gurugram, Feb. 25 (Delhi Crown): Narnaul’s Deputy Jail Superintendent Kuldeep Hooda allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison late on Thursday evening, confirmed a senior cop of Gurugram Police on Friday.
Hooda is said to have taken the extreme step after his anticipatory bail was rejected by Punjab High Court in a bribery case.
According to the police, Kuldeep Hooda consumed poison at his sister-in-law’s (wife’s sister) house in Mankrola village in Gurugram district. He was on the run ever since his name appeared in the bribery case.
Earlier, on Thursday the Punjab and Haryana High Court had dismissed Narnaul jail graft case accused Jail Superintendent Anil Kumar, and Deputy Jail Superintendent Kuldeep Hooda’s anticipatory bail pleas.
The State of Haryana had opposed the pleas saying that the jail employees were witnesses, and thus should not be given anticipatory bail to ensure a fair investigation.
Anil Kumar, posted as Rewari Jail Superintendent, had the additional charge of Narnaul Jail, when his name came up in the case, after Gurugram’s Vigilance Unit raided the prison on December 9, and caught jail warden Rajan accepting a bribe of Rs. one lakh from the henchman of gangster Vikram alias Papla Gujjar.
After interrogating Rajan, the police arrested Gaje Singh, another jail warden.
