New Delhi, Jan. 27 (Delhi Crown): A young woman mother of a child was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped on Wednesday (Republic Day) by some youths said to be involved in illegal liquor trade in Shahdara district, confirmed local DCP R. Sathyasundaram.

After the heinous crime that took place in the capital city, the assaulters also allegedly chopped the victim’s hair paraded her in streets with a garland of shoes around her neck, said media reports.

The DCP said that four youths have been arrested so far and the victim woman was being given counselling to enable her to come out of the trauma.

The assault on the victim took place in Shahdara’s Vivek Vihar area. The incident is said to be the result of the woman’s personal enmity with the accused.

According to the police, the woman is married and has a child. She was being followed by a youth from the neighbourhood who later died by suicide in November. The youth’s family held the woman responsible for his suicide.

The police were informed about the assault by her younger sister.

In a video statement, DCP Sathyasundaram was seen as saying – “An unfortunate incident of sexual assault on a woman due to personal enmity happened in Shahdara District. Police have nabbed four accused and the probe is on. All possible help and counselling are being provided for the victim.”

He further stated that an FIR has been lodged and investigation is on. Meanwhile, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has taken note of the matter.

DCW chief Swati Maliwal reportedly said the Commission will also issue a notice to the Delhi Police.
