Modi-Shah’s trusted lieutenant Vinai Kumar Saxena is Delhi’s new L-G
Had deftly handled the “Khadi Calendar” controversy 5 years ago
New Delhi, May 23 (Delhi Crown): In a rather surprise move, Vinai Kumar Saxena, the chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), popularly called as “Khadi Bhandaar”, was on Monday appointed as the next Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Delhi, to succeed Anil Baijal who had stepped down citing personal reasons a couple of days ago.
Saxena, according to BJP insiders, has a “Gujarat connection” and is a close lieutenant of both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Originally from Kanpur, Saxena is learnt to have come in contact with Modi-Shah after in 1995 he was elevated to the post of General Manager J-K White Cement to look after the “port project” in Gujarat.
According to an ANI report, Saxena is the first “corporate man” ever selected for a gubernatorial post, and is “well known in the Indian corporate and social sector with over three decades of vast experience”.
“His leadership abilities on a diverse range of social and corporate matters combined with technical, legal, social, and cultural skills make him a philanthropist in vision and corporate scientist in action”, claimed the ANI report.
In October 2015 Saxena was appointed as the Chairman of KVIC and took it to new heights, even popularising Khadi products internationally.
In 2017 a controversy had erupted wherein Modi’s pictures were displayed on Calendars and Diaries published by “Khadi India”. And, Saxena had successfully “defended” the move.
