New Delhi, Jan. 10 (Delhi Crown): The Election Commission’s Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for five poll bound states of Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand kicked in over the weekend and will remain in place till March 10, the day when counting of votes will be concluded.

As a first step, filters have been applied to the Co-WIN platform to remove the name and photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from all vaccination certificates to be issued in these five states.

Assembly elections will be held in Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand between February 10 and March 7 in seven phases. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.

The MCC for governments, political parties and their candidates comes into force immediately after the announcement of the poll schedule, which in this case was on Saturday (January 8), and ends on March 10.

The union health ministry initiated a similar step in March 2021 before polls were held in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry.
