Gives 3-day ultimatum

New Delhi, Dec. 7 (Delhi Crown): Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta on Tuesday cautioned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal against opening up new liquor shops in residential areas as per his new excise policy.

He also asked the Delhi CM to immediately shut down all new private liquor shops opened in residential areas, “else the MCDs will take a strict action.”

“All the three MCDs have been directed to take a strict action if these shops are not shut down immediately,” said Gupta at a protest organised by his party at Patel Nagar.

The protest was organised against the Delhi Govt’s new excise policy facilitating opening of new private liquor shops even within residential areas. “New shops have been opened even next to temples and schools which has all along been prohibited in Delhi,” said the Delhi BJP chief.

He called upon Kejriwal to ensure that such shops opened in residential areas must be shut down within three days.

Two shops were recently shut down in Patel Nagar area after the intervention of the local residents.

He reminded the Delhi CM of his pre-poll promises of discouraging the habit of consuming alcohol. “In his own book Swaraaj which was inaugurated by Anna Hazare, Kejriwal had written that issues like corruption and liquor shops near residential areas should be fought against,” said Adesh Gupta.

“Kejriwal is making tall promises in Goa and Punjab claiming he will ensure prohibition, but he is promoting liquor business in Delhi,” he added.
