SC lawyers to take out a candle march at Rajpath soon
New Delhi, Jan. 9 (Delhi Crown): The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) is learnt to have decided to carry out a candle march at the Rajpath, connecting the Rashtrapati Bhawan and the India Gate, to raise the grievances of the SC lawyers which have not bee addressed so far by the Bench.
The date and time of the candle march is yet to be decided and announced. Aim is to get maximum number of SC lawyers to participate in the candle march amid prevailing Covid conditions.
According to a law reporting firm, SCBA president Vikas Singh had written a letter to the Bench expressing anguish at the non-consideration of several pending issues of the Bar.
The Executive Committee of the SCBA in its meeting held on Friday (Jan. 7) unanimously resolved to hold a candle march starting from the India Gate.
The grievances of the agitated SC lawyers include the Inordinate Delay in finalisation of seniority list for allotment of Chambers, Non-consideration of SCBA members for elevation to various HCs, No steps taken for construction of new lawyers chamber on the land behind petrol pump near ITO, Not giving SC lawyers access to the auditorium and additional space in SC building, etc.
SCBA president Vikas Singh had in his letter addressed to the CJI and the 5 Senior most Judges requested that an urgent audience be granted to the Executive Committee of SCBA to discuss the issues and necessary action be taken at the earliest.
“We are now getting a feeling that the SCBA, since it has never resorted to strike in its history, is not being given its due importance,” the letter had stated.
