New Delhi: Rubika Khan (name changed), a Kashmiri woman living in a posh area in the “millennium city” called Gurugram in Haryana, is miffed at Tuesday’s brutal terror attack on innocent tourists in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Meadow. According to her, now tourism would vanish from Kashmir and the local Kashmiris would face the heat (financial losses) in the coming years.
She shrieked over phone – “What’s the fault of local Kashmiris? Local Kashmiris have suffered a lot all these years. I am a Kashmiri. I lived in Srinagar till I got married to a Hindu man from Bihar. My family was targeted both by terrorists and the Indian security forces. So many times my father kept (read protect) me and my sister locked in a room whenever our house was raided by security personnel, or terrorists entered our house asking for food and shelter on gunpoint.”
She further said, “On Tuesday, when terrorist attack had taken place in Pahalgam, who were the people who came to rescue of the victims? It were the poor daily-wager local Kashmiris who brought the tourists up to Baisaran on their ponies. It is an hour-long trek to Baisaran. In the videos that surfaced on social media soon after the terror attack, the pony-wallahs could be seen offering water and all possible help, or solace, to the wailing family members of the victims/deceased.”
Peeved at the way the Kashmir issue had been handled by successive governments all these decades, Rubika further said, “As per media reports, two ‘terrorists’ have been killed in Baramulla on Wednesday. Now, some more boys will be killed in Kashmir to show the countrymen that the Pahalgam terror attack has been avenged. But who would know that the boys killed were really the terrorists who killed the innocents in Pahalgam?”
“Instead of targeting the Kashmiris, why doesn’t our government attack Pakistan and finish it once and forever? The answer is – Because governments on either side of the border don’t want the Kashmir issue to die down. Both want to keep it alive, because it’s the bread and butter of international politics,” said Rubika while cursing Pakistan for disrupting the normal life in Kashmir.
Her father (name kept secret), who still lives in Srinagar, said that it was quite normal to see the Kashmir issue being raked up by vested groups whenever they wish to divert the countrymen’s attention from the key issues India faced.
“Over the past few days a debate was going on over the derogatory remarks made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey against the Supreme Court and Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna. Also, there were protests, demonstrations and conferences at several places in India against the “Waqf Amendment Act”. Perhaps trouble was brewing against those in the government. And, now suddenly the Pahalgam terror attack happens. The question is – How could the terrorists reach such a place (read Baisaran) which could be reached by only one route either by trekking or sitting on a pony? Why there were no security personnel there? What were our intelligence agencies doing? Why our security personnel couldn’t confront the terrorists before they could reach the famous tourist destination? All these key questions need to be answered,” he said.
Rubika’s father added that terrorists had been infiltrating the Pakistan border and carrying out terror attacks in Kashmir, and then the local Kashmiri locals are blamed. “Why doesn’t our government take a strict action against Pakistan, eliminating the terror cells there?” he added.
