Gurugram, Feb. 14 (Delhi Crown): Gurugram’s first woman Commissioner of Police (CP) Kala Ramachandran has several priorities on her mind, including ensuring women safety, controlling cyber-crime, checking drunken driving, encouraging people’s participation in city policing, traffic management, and road safety, she said in an interview on Monday (Feb. 14).
Kala, a 1994 batch IPS officer, is scheduled to assume her charge as CP Gurugram on Tuesday (Feb. 15). She will replace K.K. Rao, who has been shifted to the Centre for Police Training and Research (CPT&R), Bhondsi.
She relinquished her previous posting as Principal Secretary, Transport Department, in Chandigarh on Monday. A staff at her previous Chandigarh office confirmed that she had left for Gurugram to take over her new assignment.
Her appointment as new Gurugram CP was announced in a late Sunday night order as per which 14 other senior IPS officers were reshuffled in the state.
Kala’s husband Navdeep Singh Virk is also an IPS officer in Haryana, presently posted in Chandigarh. Virk too has served in Gurugram as CP in 2015-16. Earlier he served as DSP in 1999 when Gurugram didn’t have a Commissionerate.
