Four held in Gurugram for selling MTP kits illegally

All get bail within a couple of hours of their arrest

Gurugram, Jan. 29 (Delhi Crown): The Gurugram administration has launched a crackdown on illegal sale of MTP (Medical Termination of Pregnancy) kits, arresting as many as four persons over the past couple of days from different parts of the city.

Ironically, all the four managed to get bail from the court within a couple of hours of their arrest.

Sale of MTP kits is rampant in Gurugram, the satellite town of Haryana – a state infamous for having the lowest sex ratio across the country.

Two days ago the Gurugram Police arrested two persons from Gagandeep Complex in Civil Lines’ Baraf Khana area for their alleged involvement in carrying out illegal termination of pregnancy by impersonating as a doctor.

The two persons arrested have been identified as Ram Parkash Goel (44) and Sachin (27).

Sachin allegedly supplied medicines to Goel illegally, without any bill from Delhi.

A team of the health department led by Gurugram’s Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Pardeep Kumar trapped both the quacks by sending a woman as a decoy on Thursday night, who told Goel she wished to get her pregnancy terminated. Goel then contacted Sachin over the phone for MTP kits comprising medicines to terminate pregnancy, and handed it over to the woman for Rs. 500.

Police caught Goel and Sachin red-handed, and arrested the duo on the spot.

According to the police, Goel used to impersonate as a doctor and terminating pregnancies illegally.

This was the third such raid in Gurugram in the past few days.

Earlier, on Wednesday night the Gurugram Police had arrested one Sandeep Kumar (28) and Khalid Hussain (29) from Badshahpur for their alleged involvement in illegally terminating pregnancies by impersonating as doctors.

The Gurugram Administration said that such joint raids would continue to fulfil the resolution of the Haryana Government to improve the sex ratio in the state.
