EC issues notice to Samajwadi Party for violating Covid norms

Asks to respond within 24 hrs.

New Delhi, Jan. 15 (Delhi Crown): The Election Commission of India on Saturday issued a notice to the Samajwadi Party (SP) for violation of Covid guidelines while organising a public gathering at its office on January 14.

The EC has given the party 24 hours to respond, failing which it could take action.

Considering the sudden surge in Covid cases, last week, while announcing the election schedules in five states the EC had imposed a ban on physical rallies, roadshows and corner meetings till January 15 in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur.

Today the ban was extended by a week, till January 22. Despite the EC’s “ban on rallies” hundreds of Samajwadi Party workers were see at party’s office while new entrants, including Swami Prasad Maurya, were joined into the party.
