DLF Phase-3 murder was committed by in-laws, claim Gurugram Police

Brother-in-law committed the crime, Mom-in-law concocted a story

Gurugram, May 28 (Delhi Crown): With the arrest of a mother-son duo, the Gurugram Police on Saturday claimed to have solved a murder case that had taken place in DLF Phase-3, U-block on May 26 (Thursday).

Both the accused originally hail from West-Bengal’s North-24-Parganas district. The deceased used to run a utensils’ shop in village Nathupur, adjoining to their place of residence, said a cop.

The Police claimed that the deceased’s brother-in-law and mother-in-law had allegedly killed him as he had invested a huge amount of money in the stock market and suffered losses.

The mother-son duo had initially told the Gurugram Police that he died due to injuries caused by falling from the stairs inside his house.

Post-mortem had revealed that the deceased, identified as Shubhankar Bhadra, had died of nine injuries on head. This was enough for the Gurugram Police to further investigate into the murder.

His mother-in-law has been identified as Malti, while his son is named Suraj.

The Gurugram Police learnt that while the deceased’s wife was away at a shopping mall at the time of death, there was a heated argument between the deceased and his brother-in-law over the stock market issue. Amid the fight, the brother-in-law hit him on his head with an iron rod.

“After killing him, Suraj and his mother Malti misled the Police and his family members. They told a concocted story that the deceased died due to injuries after falling from the stairs,” added a cop at DLF Phase-3 police station.

He added – “Wife of the deceased told the police that she lived with her husband (deceased), mother and her brother in U-block, DLF Phase-3.  Her husband has a shop of utensils.  On May 25 she had gone to the mall with her sister-in-law and nephew, when she got a call that her husband fell on the stairs inside the house, and has been admitted to Neelkanth Hospital, where he later died during treatment.”

During investigation, the Gurugram Police cops zeroed in on the mother-son duo and intensely interrogated them during which they broke down and admitted their involvement in the crime.

In a bid to save his son from the murder charge, Malti concocted a false story and told the Police that her son-in-law had died after falling off the stairs.

Both, Malti and Suraj, were arrested on Saturday and produced before a local court. The iron rod used in the crime has also been recovered.
