New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India issued an official statement on Monday approving the proposal of appointment of senior district judge in Delhi – Vimal Kumar Yadav – as a judge of the Delhi High Court. His formal appointment and new posting are awaited.

“The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 28th July has approved the proposal for appointment of Shri Vimal Kumar Yadav, Judicial Officer, as a Judge of the High Court of Delhi,” said the statement posted on the Supreme Court’s official website.

A 1992-batch judicial officer, Yadav’s last posting was as the Principal District & Sessions Judge at the Patiala House Courts. After completing the mandatory training, his first posting was as a Metropolitan Magistrate (M.M.) at the Tis Hazari Courts. It is learnt that Yadav topped the written examination in his batch.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district, Yadav studied mostly in Delhi as his father was a school-teacher in the Delhi Administration. He first completed B. Com.(Hons), and then earned his Law Degree (LLB) from the Delhi University (D.U.).

Born in January 1965, Yadav obtained a P-G Diploma in Cyber Laws and Internet, wrote articles on legal topics in DJA Journal and poems etc., besides publishing two books.

In 2003 he became a member of Delhi Higher Judicial Service. He also served as Additional Registrar in the Supreme Court of India for two years. Before being elevated as the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Yadav also had a stint as a CBI Judge at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Courts.
