Delhi Gym owners protest against not been allowed to reopen

Say 5 lakh families are dependent on Gyms for their survival

New Delhi, Jan. 29 (Delhi Crown): Hundreds of owners of Gymnasiums in Delhi staged a protest in the national capital outside the residence of L-G Anil Baijal against the decision of not allowing the Gyms to reopen when all other businesses have been thrown open.

“Every other business is open in Delhi but gyms are asked to close. 5500 gyms and 5 lakh families which are dependent on Gyms for their survival feel cheated as other businesses which were shut with gyms i.e Banquet and cinema were allow to open at 50% capacity but permission was not given for gyms,” said Chirag Sethi, Vice President, Delhi Gym Association.

The protest was attended by over 200 Gym owners, fitness-trainers and staff members, all of whom demanded that the Gyms be opened immediately and save them from going bankrupt.

Sethi said that fitness centres were open in the neighbouring states but no surge in the Omicron cases were seen there.

“Do we want the people of Delhi to stay unhealthy, unfit and obese. No cases of Corona transmission are seen in any Gym all over the world. The DDMA should think about the 5 lakh families dependent on this industry. If the Gyms are not opened soon then thousands of Gym owners and their families will come on road to protest against this,” added Sethi.
