Covid cases per day double in 24 hours to nearly 1000

New Delhi, Dec. 29 (Delhi Crown): Delhi recorded as many as 923 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, which is almost double of 496 cases registered on Tuesday, showed the latest data revealed by the state’s health department.

Delhi also tops the list of states in terms of Omicron cases. On Wednesday morning the tally stood 238, which was an increase of 73 cases from 165 on Tuesday.

This is the maximum number of cases in any Indian state, followed by Maharashtra with 167 cases. On Wednesday morning the total tally of Omicron variant cases in India stood at 781, up from 653 yesterday.

Considering the emerging situation, Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G)) Anil Baijal held the 29th meeting of the Delhi Disaster management Authority (DDMA), particularly in light of the Omicron scare. The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, besides senior officials from different departments, particularly the Health Department.

At the meeting Baijal advised the Delhi Health Department to “enhance the health preparedness” in order to deal effectively with the emerging situation, and to closely monitor bed-occupancy besides strengthening the home isolation strategy.

“Called upon all stakeholders for collective and concerted efforts to deal with the pandemic without lowering guard,” tweeted the Lieutenant Governor after the meeting. He further stated that it was decided to continue with the existing restrictions imposed recently in view of rising cases, and to keep a close vigil on the ground situation.

In terms of Covid-19 cases too, Delhi is once again witnessing a recent spurt, even as the number of cases per day has risen four-folds over the past few days. Till 10 days ago, the number of cases per day had fallen to below-100 level, but now it is once again touching 1000 cases per day.

On Wednesday Delhi reported as many as 923 positive cases, zero deaths and 344 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The number of Active cases stood at 2191 in the national capital.

On Tuesday, it had recorded as many as 496 new Covid cases and one death.

Till date, the Capital City has registered a total of 1,445,102 Covid cases, even as 25,107 people have died of the pandemic.

As a result of rising number of cases in the national capital, the Delhi Government has imposed fresh restrictions, including shutting all educational institutions, Gymnasiums and Cinemas Halls. Night curfew has been imposed in Delhi from 11:00 p.m. till 5:00 a.m., in a bid to check the pandemic spread.
