Delhi court imposes a fine on Press Club of India
Court takes a strong note of Club lawyer’s continued absence from hearings
New Delhi, Dec. 17 (Delhi Crown): A Patiala House court on Friday imposed a fine of Rs 2000 on the Press Club of India (PCI) situated in the heart of the national capital.
The fine was imposed after the PCI’s lawyer(s) failed to turn up for several hearings in the past.
A senior journalist (Freelance) Pankaj Yadav has filed a civil suit against the PCI regarding a membership issue. The case has been pending before the court for several years, and is now on the Evidence/Witness stage.
In the previous hearing held last week, the court had issued a Notice to the PCI lawyer(s) for continued absence from court hearings. On Friday a junior proxy lawyer appeared before the court saying the PCI lawyer was unwell as he was suffering from fever.
Taking a strong note of the regular absence of the PCI lawyer(s), the judge imposed a fine of Rs 2000 and fixed December 21 (Tuesday) as the next date of hearing.
