Rs 5 lakhs for families of kids who died & Rs 25,000 for those whose huts were destroyed

New Delhi, March 12 (Delhi Crown): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced a monetary compensation of Rs 10 lakhs to the families of each of the dead in today’s fire incident in Gokalpuri area of North-East Delhi.

Besides, he also announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakhs to the families of children who died in the fire, and Rs 25,000 for those whose huts were destroyed.

At least seven persons were charred to death after the major fire broke out in the wee hours of Saturday. As many as 13 fire tenders were sent to douse the fire that had broken out in the hutments.

According to Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg, a fire call was received at around 1:05 a.m. on Saturday about a major fire in hutments in Gokalpuri area near Metro Pillar No. 12. Soon 13 fire tenders were rushed to the spot for fire-fighting.

“Fire had spread to around 60 huts. So far seven charred dead bodies have been recovered. Rescue work is still on,” said Garg.
