Delhi BJP to carry out referendum on Kejriwal’s new Excise Policy
Opinion to be sought from 10 lakh people
New Delhi, March 3 (Delhi Crown): BJP’s Delhi unit will carry out a referendum on Kejriwal Government’s new Excise Policy on Friday (March 4).
Boxes have been sent to 1120 locations in all the 272 MCD wards in all the three MCDs – the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), said party sources.
The target is to seek opinion from nearly 10 lakh people through this referendum.
People’s opinion will be taken through these boxes being kept at 3-4 places in of the 272 MCD wards.
But, as to who will be allowed to vote in this day-long referendum could be anybody’s guess !
According to BJP sources, more than 50,000 party workers would distribute a pamphlet in main markets, religious places and near schools to take people’s vote on the issue.
After getting the people’s response, the party would decide further course of action.
The Delhi unit of the BJP has been consistently carrying out protests against Kejriwal’s new excise policy ever since it was implemented on Nov. 17 last year. As per the new Excise Policy, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had given away the business of selling liquor in Delhi to private players instead of the state govt.-owned vends earlier.
As many as 850 liquor vends had been allowed to be opened across the country, with 3-4 vends in each of the MCD wards.
Amid protests and dharnas against these privately owned liquor vends, the Delhi BJP has already “sealed” over 300 such liquor shops that came up in clear violation of laws and in coming days.
The BJP plans to shut another 157 liquor vends which are located within 500 metres of the highways, said the party sources.
