Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta invites Kejriwal to watch “The Kashmir Files”
New Delhi, March 23 (Delhi Crown): Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta on Wednesday invited Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to watch the film “The Kashmir Files”, based on the lives of Kashmiri Pandits, with him on Thursday at Film Division theatre at Mahadev Road.
The Delhi unit of BJP has been calling upon Kejriwal to declare the film Entertainment Tax-free, but the latter hasn’t yielded yet. Though many states have already declared it tax-free.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the film a few days ago, calling out attempts to discredit the movie by “ecosystem” of the so-called supporters of freedom of expression.
According to a section of media reports, the film has also come under “bitter criticism” as it’s unprecedented for the Central Government to put its weight behind a commercial movie.
The feature film, casting Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, with a production budget of Rs. 15 crores, is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in 1990s from the Kashmir valley during the height of militancy in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The movie has generated mixed reactions and has also led to aggressive and tense sloganeering in movie theatres. It has already crossed collections of Rs 200 crores.
