Environment Minister Gopal Rai announced ban on construction/demolition till Nov 21

Ban comes in the wake of rising air pollution levels

New Delhi, Nov. 17 (Delhi Crown): Construction or repair of buildings and demolition work within Delhi will remain banned till November 21, announced Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Wednesday.

The statement comes in the wake of the rising air pollution levels in the national capital city over the past couple of weeks.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi has been varying between “Severe” and “Hazardous” since the Diwali night. Several causes are being cited behind the deteriorating AQI above Delhi, such as stubble burning, vehicular pollution, and construction & demolition activities.

The rise in air pollution levels leads to a considerable rise in PM2.5 and PM10 particulates in the air.

Only last week, Gopal Rai had imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the NBCC for flouting construction norms, thus adding to air pollution.
