Lady Councillor identified as Geeta Rawat
New Delhi, Feb. 18 (Delhi Crown): Geeta Rawat, a lady MCD Councillor belonging to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) was arrested on Friday by the investigating agency CBI for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000.
According to CBI sleuths, Geeta Rawat allegedly demanded the bribe of Rs 20,000 from a person for extending him a favour to lay roof of his building in an unhindered manner. Geeta is the sitting MCD Councillor from West Vinod Nagar Ward in Patparganj area.
Besides Geeta Rawat, one more person was nabbed by CBI for being involved in the exchange of money.
The MCD Councillor’s arrest has come as a serious blow to the AAP ahead of the MCD Polls, slated to be held in two months from now.
The BJP currently rules in all the three MCDs – East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC). And, the AAP is planning to give a tough competition to the BJP in the ensuing local body polls, mainly targeting the ruling party over “rampant corruption” in the MCDs.
