Says Najafgarh drain is the main cause of pollution of Yamuna river
New Delhi, Nov. 9 (Delhi Crown): BJP MP and former party president Manoj Tiwari on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal holding him solely responsible for pollution in the Najafgarh drain which passes through Delhi and finally flows into Yamuna river in north Delhi.
“The highly-polluted Najafgarh drain carrying poisonous affluents flows into river Yamuna, and is the main source of the pollution in the river,” Tiwari said in a video he tweeted today.
Standing on the banks of Najafgarh drain near the Wazirabad Bridge and the Signature Bridge, Tiwari said that Kejriwal was solely responsible for the pollution levels of river Yamuna.
“All these years the Kejriwal government didn’t do anything to treat the polluted Najafgarh drain,” he said, and suggested that the drain should be separated and treated before it flows into the river.
He claimed that he had been raising the issue (of polluted Najafgarh drain) all these years in the Lok Sabha.
Tiwari’s attack on Kejriwal government assumes significance in the wake of the current high-levels of pollution in Yamuna with large quantities of white froth emerging in the river.
Over the past two days, “Chhath Puja” devotees were seen taking a dip in the polluted Yamuna river with large amounts of white froth floating over it.
The Chhath Puja is celebrated in Delhi on a grand scale for past several years, particular by people hailing from Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh popularly called “Purvanchalis”. Tiwari too originally belongs to Bihar.
The Najafgarh drain which originates from southern Haryana carries high-levels of chemicals and other affluents emitted from industries in Gurugram. It passes through South-West Delhi, West Delhi, North-West Delhi, North Delhi, before finally merging into Yamuna river.
