Alka Mittal is new CMD of ONGC

Becomes the first woman to head the energy major

New Delhi, Jan. 3 (Delhi Crown): Alka Mittal was on Monday took charge as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of public sector firm “Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC)”.

Alka is the first woman to head the energy major. She will succeed Subhash Kumar who superannuated Dec. 31.

Alka has been working as ONGC’s Director (Human Resources) since November 2018. She was also the Head of Corporate Communications of ONGC during 2009.

A post-graduate in Economics, MBA (HRM) and Doctorate in Commerce and Business Studies, Dr. Alka Mittal joined ONGC as a Graduate Trainee in 1985. She was appointed as Director (HR) of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited on November 27, 2018.

Normally the Government of India appoints a replacement of a director or chairman on any public sector board at least a couple of months before his/her retirement. However, the same practice was not followed in the case of ONGC.
