‘Bharat Ratna’ Lata Mangeshkar passes away at 92

Two days of National Mourning declared

New Delhi, Feb. 6 (Delhi Crown): Lata Mangeshkar, who was taken ill for the past couple of weeks, passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 92.

She will be cremated in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park at 4:30 p.m. today.

She was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on January 8 after she tested positive for Covid-19. She was under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) over the past couple of weeks.

After showing signs of improvement recently, her health condition deteriorated. Unfortunately, she passed away today, leaving the entire nation in a state of grief.

Expressing grief over Lata’s demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted – “I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people.”

He added – “My interactions with her will remain unforgettable. I grieve with my fellow Indians on the passing away of Lata Didi. Spoke to her family and expressed condolences. Om Shanti.”
