143 women caught in Gurugram for drunken driving
Nearly 13,700 people caught for drink-and-drive; 11 vehicles impounded

Gurugram: As many as 143 women drivers were caught by the Gurugram Police for being tipsy while driving in this city which boasts of flashy wine shops and cheap liquor available on L-1 liquor shops !
According to the Gurugram Police’s PRO Sandeep Kumar, “In this year’s anti-drink-and-drive campaign, so far we apprehended a total of 143 women drivers who were found drunk while driving. Besides, a total of 13,694 people were caught for being drunk at the wheel. We identified several sports across the city where barricades were installed during night hours, and special teams were deployed to carry out a dedicated drink-and-drive campaign. High-tech breath analysers were used to identify the drunken drivers.”
According to the local police, so far a total of 11 vehicles had been impounded of those who were found heavily drunk, or possessing liquor bottles beyond the permissible limits.
Sandeep Kumar added, “Such anti-drunken driving campaigns will continue in future too. We appeal to the public at large to avoid drink and drive, and follow traffic rules.”
In Gurugram, a first-time offender caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can face a fine of Rs. 10,000 or imprisonment for up to six months, or both, under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. For a second or subsequent offence within a year, the fine may increase to Rs 15,000 and imprisonment can extend to two years. The Gurugram Traffic Police also stated that the driving licence of the offender can be suspended for three months.
